GE 50-pint dehumidifier review
A current GE 50-pint with a larger bucket than the Trazico and a Smart Dry mode that slows the fan as the room dries. The public record is still short, and this version does not include a pump.
Amazon customers rate it 4.2 out of 5 from 96 ratings. Live Amazon listing, in stock and sold by Amazon.com, when checked on November 4, 2026. We do not turn that into our own star score.
- Best for
- A basement or garage when you want a current GE 50-pint without a pump
- Coverage
- Manufacturer claim: up to 5,000 sq ft
- Removal
- Up to 50 pints per day. Test condition is not stated on the bullets we checked.
- Tank
- 15 pints (about 1.9 gallons)
- Drainage
- Gravity drain connection, or the bucket. A hose is not clearly included.
- Noise
- Listing does not publish a decibel rating
What holds up
- 15-pint bucket means fewer trips if you cannot use a hose
- Smart Dry varies fan speed against the humidity you set
- Humidistat spans 30% to 70%, with three fan speeds
- In stock from Amazon.com when we checked, with auto defrost and auto restart listed
What does not
- Only 96 ratings so far, so the 4.2 is an early read
- No pump. Water has to fall away from the unit
- The listing does not publish the temperature and humidity behind the 50-pint claim
- No Wi-Fi on this model
A current GE, not the one from memory
GE has sold a lot of 50-pint dehumidifiers. Several older model numbers are hard to find as a normal new offer. The one that was in stock from Amazon.com on November 4, 2026 is the ADHE50BWF, ASIN B0FNQ7YZRV. It claims up to 50 pints a day and up to 5,000 square feet. The bullets we read do not say at what temperature and humidity the 50 pints were measured. That is a gap. Do not pretend it is the same sentence as the hOmeLabs figure at 80°F and 60% RH.
What is specific: a 15-pint bucket, a humidistat from 30% to 70%, three fan speeds, and Smart Dry, which changes fan speed from the humidity in the room instead of leaving you on high after the air is already fine. A full or missing bucket sets off about a ten-second alarm. There is a gravity drain connection, a washable filter, wheels, pocket handles, auto defrost, and auto restart. Wi-Fi is not part of this model. A pump is not part of this model. GE sells a pump version as a different ASIN. If a product photo or a title fragment says "pump," check the model number before you trust it.
The short record
Ninety-six ratings at 4.2 is an early crowd. It is not a red flag by itself, and it is not the comfort of twenty-five thousand reviews. Read recent comments for leaks at the hose port, buckets that do not seat, and noise, because those are the faults that show up in the first season on almost every compressor. A 4.2 with a young count can move. That is why this is a "brand-name option," not the automatic first pick.
Living with the bucket
Fifteen pints is nearly two gallons. If you empty by hand, that is a kinder rhythm than the Trazico's 0.59-gallon tank. If you drain by hose, the bucket size matters only when the hose fails. Route the hose down. A review that says the hose "did not work with the basement drain" is often a rise in the line or the wrong fitting, which is worth checking before a return, and sometimes is a real port problem. Either way, do not expect this unit to push water uphill.
Smart Dry is the mode to leave it in after the first wet day. Use a higher fixed speed to knock a soggy room down, then let Smart Dry maintain. Set the humidistat at 50% and confirm with a separate meter. The machine's own number is a control input, not a calibrated weather report.
Who should buy it
Buy the GE if you want a current 50-pint from that brand, you like the larger bucket, and you do not need Wi-Fi or a pump. Buy the hOmeLabs if the long record matters more. Buy the Trazico if the included hose and the value are the point and you accept its test-condition caveat. Skip this GE if your drain is above the unit. That is the pump model's job, and it is a different product.

Questions people ask
Does this GE have a built-in pump?
No. GE sells a pump version under a different ASIN. ADHE50BWF drains by gravity or into the 15-pint bucket. If your floor drain is uphill, this is the wrong twin.
Is Smart Dry worth using?
Yes, as the everyday mode. It compares the setpoint with the room and backs the fan off instead of running flat out after the air is already dry. Use a high fixed speed only for a wet start, then return to Smart Dry.
How does the review count compare with hOmeLabs?
It does not. Ninety-six ratings against more than twenty-five thousand is a different kind of evidence. We include the GE because the current model is in stock and the controls are sensible, not because the long-term record is settled.
