Frigidaire 22-pint dehumidifier review

The small-room pick when a closet gadget is not enough. Energy Star, rated down to 41°F, and a 1.7-gallon bucket that is generous for a 22-pint machine. It will not dry a wet basement.

Amazon customers rate it 4.1 out of 5 from 168 ratings. Live Amazon listing, in stock and sold by Amazon.com, when checked on November 4, 2026. We do not turn that into our own star score.

What holds up

  • States low-temperature operation down to 41°F, which matters in a cool bedroom or finished basement corner
  • Energy Star, washable filter, auto shutoff, and auto restart
  • 1.7-gallon tank is large relative to a 22-pint removal rate
  • Wi-Fi plus a published 43 dBA claim

What does not

  • 22 pints will not hold a large, wet basement
  • 4.1 from 168 ratings is fine, not a huge sample
  • App control is only useful if you want it. Several owners of this class of Frigidaire say the buttons on the unit are the part they actually use
  • Still a compressor, so it is louder than a thermoelectric cube

The small compressor, on purpose

The FHDD2234W1 is a 22-pint Frigidaire with Wi-Fi, Energy Star, a 1.7-gallon bucket, and a listing that says it will work down to 41°F. The area claim is about 1,500 square feet. The noise claim is 43 dBA. Power is 115 volts and 260 watts. You can drain into the bucket or by gravity. The app is Frigidaire's, and the listing also names Alexa and Google. Amazon showed 4.1 from 168 ratings, in stock and sold by Amazon.com, when we checked on November 4, 2026.

Several larger Frigidaire listings people still search for were unavailable or were not a straightforward new offer. This 22-pint was the live one, and it happens to be the right size for the job those big machines are wasted on: one closed bedroom, a humid apartment, a bathroom that never quite dries.

What 22 pints will not do

It will not hold a wet basement. If the block walls sweat or the sump runs, step up to the hOmeLabs, the GE, or the Trazico with its hose. Using a 22-pint in that space produces the sad pattern in the "running but still humid" guide: the compressor never rests, the room barely moves, and the owner thinks the unit is broken.

In a closed smaller room the 1.7-gallon tank is a kindness. Twenty-two pints a day into a tank that size does not mean you are emptying it every hour. Continuous drain is there if you want it. Because the machine is rated to 41°F, it is a better fit for a cool finished room than a thermoelectric cube that the maker says to keep above 50°F.

Noise and the app

Forty-three decibels is a claimed floor, not a promise that high speed will vanish beside a bed. Put it a few feet from the pillow, on a firm level surface, and use the lower fan once the room has caught up. The Wi-Fi is useful if you travel or if the unit sits where you do not want to walk. It is not a reason to buy a Frigidaire over a simpler machine if you only ever press two buttons. Owners of this class of dehumidifier often say the app is the part they stop opening. The washable filter and the auto shutoff are the parts they keep using.

Who should buy it

Buy it for a bedroom, a home office, a damp bathroom, or a mildly damp small basement that stays above the low 40s. Pair it with a hygrometer and a setpoint around 50%. Do not buy it for a closet and expect whisper-quiet ounces. That is the Eva-Dry. Do not buy it to replace a 50-pint that died in a wet cellar. You will be back in a week, and the water will still be in the air.

Questions people ask

Will a 22-pint Frigidaire fix a basement?

Only a small, mildly damp one. A basement that smells wet or shows condensation on the walls needs a 50-pint class compressor such as the hOmeLabs or the GE on this site, or the Trazico if you are comparing on value and you will use the hose.

Is it quiet enough for a bedroom?

Frigidaire lists 43 dBA, which is a soft compressor hum, not silence. People who need near-silence in a nursery should look at a thermoelectric unit and accept that it removes far less water.

Why mention 41°F?

Compressor coils ice up when the room is cold. A published 41°F floor, plus auto defrost on the larger units, is the difference between a machine that dries a cool room and one that turns into a block of frost. See the freezing guide for the full checklist.
